Flesh and Bones

“Qiz Qalasi” Art Gallery will host the opening of a joint exhibition by two Austrian artists, “Flesh and Bones”. The artists will present their sculptures and graphic works on October 10, 2011. Thomas Cosma and Ben Siegel are students of the Austrian sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka. They developed the theme of the physical nature of man, but approach the topic from different conceptual positions. Thomas Cosma studies structure of the human body from the skeleton level, attaching archaeological materials. The artist says that bones are the only thing that remains after death; they are a symbol of death, they are incorruptible, but they form a human figure and are the basis for life. Cosma works with different materials, including metal, concrete and stone. Ben Siegel refers to the material substance of human flesh, he is interested in the diversity of people, with all their faults and perfect body shapes. In sculpture, the artist uses art to receive a non-compact support, in which the forms of sculpture are only partially "released" from the stone block, this is one of the most common forms of modern abstract art. Both artists will also present their graphic works.
