“Together we are!” 2019

The decision to hold the first European Games in history was taken on December 8, 2012 at the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee, held in Rome, and the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, was elected as the venue for the first European Games. And since 2013, our country began to prepare for this landmark and historic event. On the eve of the Games, on the initiative and with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, a number of various events dedicated to this event were planned and successfully held in European capitals, including the travelling exhibition of sculptures called “Together we are!” aimed to demonstrate the uniqueness of the upcoming sporting event using artistic images, and reflect the strength of mind, the will to win and the eternal human desire for physical perfection through art. We were glad and accepted with great enthusiasm the invitation of the National Center for Contemporary Arts of the Republic of Belarus to take part in the international exhibition project called “European Games - European Art” dedicated to the 2nd European Games, which will be held in Minsk from June 21 to 30, 2019. We are participating in this project with an exhibition of sports sculptures by Azerbaijani masters called “Together we are!” dedicated to the First European Games, which were successfully held in Baku in June 2015. Sport is a real art that can be expressed in hundreds of ways, and the art of making statues - the art of sculpture holds a unique place among them. Art and sport historically acted as the force that united the society.

And we believe that this exhibition will serve as an example of laying the tradition of successful and productive cooperation in the cultural and sports sphere among the organizing countries of the European Games.
