Artists of the USSR and the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan. The artist works in several directions – painting, graphics and installations involving antique furniture and objects. In the late 1990’s Eliar Alimirzoyev was one of the founders of the “Labyrinth" art group. In 2006 he was awarded the Honorary Artist of the Azerbaijan title. He worked for two months in 2001-2002 in war-torn East Timor. There the artist painted his thematic works, including landscapes and portraits reflecting distinctive features of the island’s nature and inhabit¬ants – Alimirzoyev became the first artist working in East Timor to have held a solo exhibition there. Eliar’s ethereal canvases remind the texture of the happy childhood dreams – gilded, saturated, bright and at the same time yet elusive. Even in his still lifes, a rather classical and conservative genre, this talented painter has retained his signature manner of painting, his stylistic originality - the pastiche of the old masters harmonizes with the fundamental ideas of the modern art. Eliar’s land¬scapes along with their illusory world slightly differing from the real Universe keep the similar feeling of “the bridge over the centuries”. Some of the works by this master refer the viewer to deep problems of humanity. The artist provokes the viewer as if to break away from the usual stereotypes and to soar above the ordinary, looking at world through different eyes. His works are kept in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia; in the Funen Art Museum, Odense, Denmark; in the Union of Artists of Russia; in the Ministry of Cul¬ture of the Russian Federation; in the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan; in the Albertina, Vienna, Austria and in the Tomsk State Museum, Russia. A peculiar refinement and aestheticism in the works of Eliar are merged with the thin and sometimes the painful self-irony.
